2006 Saint Paul Humboldt graduate Julian Mancha was recently accepted to Iowa State University
as a student and a wrestler. Mancha was the Class AAA 171 pound state
champion in 2006 and he placed sixth at 171 pounds in 2005. He is one
of only two state champions for Humboldt (Jose Trevino, 1992, was the
first).
Upon high school graduation Mancha enrolled at Buena Vista University
where he was one of thirteen freshman to make and play varsity
football. In his second year of wrestling he qualified for the Division
III Nationals at 165 pounds but did not place. He is the first
generation of his family to go to college.
"Although he is unsure of what if any impact this transfer will have on
his wrestling career, he is very excited to be wrestling for one of our
greatest wrestlers – Cael Sanderson," stated Julian's high school coach
Darryl Johnson. "Let's wish him well in his endeavor and follow his
success as a community."
