SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 6-ranked and fifth-seeded Augustana went 2-1 at the NWCA National Duals Saturday, beating No. 17-ranked and unseeded Findlay (Ohio) 27-12, falling to No. 4-ranked and seeded Nebraska-Kearney 21-10 and topping unseeded Northern State 25-15 in Springfield, Ill.
Augustana (4-1) will face Limestone (S.C.) tomorrow at 9 a.m. A win would put the Vikings in the consolation championship against No. 11 Wisconsin-Parkside (seventh seed) or No. 7 Central Oklahoma (sixth seed).
The Vikings opened their tilt with UF by rattling off five straight wins, getting victories from Cody Lensing (133), Jeremiah Peterson (133), Chism Fink (141), Nate Herda (149) and Marcus Edgington (157). The streak earned Augustana a 21-0 lead.
The Oilers picked up their first of three wins at 165 pounds when Mason True topped Matt Morris. UF also collected victories at 184 and 285 pounds.
In the final five bouts, Carl Serck (174) and Brian Schultz (197) each earned victories.
UNK won seven bouts en route to its victory over Augustana in the second round. Lensing (125), Serck (174) and Sean Derry (184) each registered wins. Lensing got his victory by major decision, while Serck and Derry were winners by decision.
Five wins to open the dual against NSU propelled the Vikings to their victory over the Wolves.
Lensing (125), Peterson (133), Fink (141), Herda (149) and Edgington (157) began the contest by logging victories. Peterson and Herda earned wins by major decision, and Fink charted a technical fall.
Serck (174) and Jeff Nielsen (197) extended the Augustana advantage with additional wins.
The Vikings’ lone losses came at 165, 184 and 285 pounds. Augustana left 285 pounds open.
Augustana finished second at last season’s NWCA National Duals.
