Mike Thorn of Saint Michael-Albertville was named MWCA Mr. Minnesota of Wrestling at the Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame Banquet held at Augsburg College on April 29, 2006.
The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association annually presents the Mr. Minnesota High School Wrestler award to the senior that best exemplifies the highest ideals of high school wrestling in Minnesota. Judging is based on past performances, citizenship, academics, leadership, and adherence to MSHSL rules.
Thorn is a three-time state champion and a four-time finalist. He won the Class AA 125 pound title this year, the 119 pound title as a junior, and the 112 pound title as a sophomore. Mike also placed second at 103 pounds as a freshman. He ended his high school career with a 185-7 record which included two undefeated 49-0 seasons.
Thorn will continue his wrestling career in college next year with the Minnesota Gophers.
