Augustana 47 Sioux Falls 0

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 3 Augustana rattled off 10 straight wins, including four by fall, to blank in-town neighbor the University of Sioux Falls 47-0 Wednesday night at the Elmen Center.

The Vikings move to 2-0.

Augustana had little trouble with USF; of the Vikings’ 10 wins, just three were only by decision. The remainder came by major decision, technical fall and fall.

Chism Fink, Austin Carmichael, Sean Derry and Lance Peters all picked up wins by fall.

Fink pinned USF’s Tom Thompson in 2:41 at 149 pounds, while Camichael needed just 33 seconds to defeat Clint McKee at 157 pounds. Derry defeated Tal Bakke in 1:10. The most impressive pin, though, came from Peters, who used just 16 seconds of clock to top Joe Skow in the heavweight bout.

Augustana’s Al Meger christened the dual with a 9-3 victory over Brandon Goodwin at 125 pounds, and Cody Lensing stretched the Vikings lead to 9-0 with a win by technical fall against Chaz Fredericksen at 133 pounds.

Jay Sherer followed with a 17-4 major decision win over Joe Goolsby to push the advantage to 13-0 after his 141-pound match.

Fink and Carmichael notched back-to-back pins for a 25-0 Viking lead, and Michael Edgington was an 11-9 winner over Travis Godbersen at 165 pounds to record Augustana’s sixth victory of the night.

Derry’s pin ensued, and Tom Davies continued by taking a 5-2 decision from Casey Finnicum.

At 197 pounds Ty Copsey pitched an 11-0 shutout to win by major decision over Shea Klooster; Peters finished with his dazzling pin to close the dual.

Augustana has now won the past three meetings with USF by a combined score of 138-9.

The Vikings travel to the MSU Moorhead Open on Saturday and continue dual competition next Thursday with a trip to Northwestern (Iowa).
