SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana women’s golfer Kate Tobin and wrestler Marcus Edgington have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 7 At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced this week. Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of CoSIDA. To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution.
The College Division is comprised of NCAA Division II and III, NAIA and NJCAA programs. District 7 includes institutions from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Tobin, a senior from Eden Prairie, Minn., collected All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NSIC All-Tournament Team honors this season. She was also named All-Central Region by the National Golf Coaches Association in 2011. Tobin finished fourth at the NSIC Championship, fifth at the Central Region Championship and tied for 47th at the NCAA Championship. Augustana was the 2011 NSIC and Central Region champion and finished tied for ninth at the NCAA Championship.
A junior from Sioux City, Iowa, Edgington was an All-America honoree in 2011 after earning seventh-place honors at 157 pounds at the NCAA Championship. He compiled a 27-9 record and was an All-NSIC second-team selection and third-place finisher at the Super Regional Three Championship. Edgington was also named Division II All-Academic and Academic All-NSIC this season. The Vikings finished third at the NCAA Championship this season.
As a first-team honoree, Tobin will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
