NDSU Coach Bret Maughan suspended 5 days

FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota State assistant wrestling coach Bret Maughan has been suspended for five days without pay after a drunken driving conviction.

Athletic director Gene Taylor told The Forum newspaper that Maughan also will have to go through an alcohol evaluation. He says if Maughan gets another DUI, he will be fired.

Maughan declined comment to The Associated Press Thursday.

Police records show that Maughan was arrested in Fargo on July 14. He was later given a 30-day suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay $600 in fines.

Maughan is the son of retired NDSU wrestling coach Bucky Maughan.
