The Annual Wrestling Officials’ Clinic will be held at Elk River High School (map) at 900 School Street. Registration is from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM with the rules meeting at 8:30. The clinic will end by 12:30 PM with no lunch provided. There is no cost!
The clinic will be held in conjunction with the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Clinic. It will start with a joint session of the NFHS 2011-12 Rules Interpretation. This will meet your MSHSL requirement.
Following the joint session, the officials will meet separately and discuss topics pertinent to officiating. The clinic is targeted at Level 1 and Level II/III officials. These training sessions will meet your MSHSL requirement for advancement and maintenance of your classification.
There will be a number of general sessions presented by many of the known wrestling officials in Minnesota. They have valuable experience in officiating key matches and in the knowledge of the rules.
This year’s general sessions will focus on these areas:
- The issue of Concussions and the Role of the Official
- Fleeing the Mat – making consistent calls
- Coaches/Referee Conferences
- Injury Timeouts
This clinic also provides an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss wrestling officiating with officials throughout the state. If you are looking to join an association, there will be representatives there to talk to.
What you learn in the few hours of this clinic is more valuable than 2 or 3 years of officiating on your own.
There will be an additional training session at Farmington High School on Thurs. Nov. 10, at 6 PM. This session will not be as extensive as Elk River, but will concentrate on specific items pertinent to all levels of officials.
- 2011-12 Rules
- Levels I-III Training
- Fleeing the Mat
- Dealing with coaches, fans, and athletes
- Illegal Holds
- Judgment and Consistency
- Situations on the mat
- Officiating Mechanics
- Points of Emphasis
Nov. 10 at Farmington – 6 pm
You need to pre-register for any of the training sessions. This can be performed on the MSHSL Web Site in the Official’s Corner. We need that information for planning purposes.
