NDSU Wrestling Announces 2011-12 Schedule

FARGO, N.D. – Head coach Roger Kish today announced the 2011-12 schedule for the North Dakota State wrestling team. The Bison will host four dual meets as well as the annual Bison Open.

NDSU’s schedule includes four non-conference duals against teams that finished in the top 25 at the 2011 NCAA Championships – Minnesota, Boise State, Nebraska and Oregon State.

The season will kick off with the Bison Open Nov. 12 and the Nebraska-Kearney Open on Nov. 19.

The Bison will travel to Minneapolis on take on Minnesota on Nov. 27 in the first dual meet of the year. The Golden Gophers finished seventh at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

Western Wrestling Conference action opens Dec. 6 with a home meet against South Dakota State. A trip to St. Cloud, Minn. for the Husky Open on Dec. 10 will be followed by a home dual against Nebraska on Dec. 18. The Cornhuskers placed 12th at last season’s NCAA Championships.

The Bison will close out 2011 at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill. Dec. 29 and 30, competing in the tournament for the first time.

NDSU travels east to the Virginia Duals Jan. 13-14, 2012 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. The matchups will be announced later this fall.

The team follows the trip east with a trip west to take on Boise State and Oregon State. The dual with Boise State is scheduled for Jan. 20 and the Broncos are coming off a ninth place finish at the NCAA Championships. NDSU upset No. 6 Boise State the last time the two teams met in 2010. The Oregon State dual will take place Jan. 22 in Corvallis, Ore. The Beavers placed 21st at the NCAA Championships.

NDSU will continue WWC action with a Jan. 27 home dual against Air Force. Road duals against Northern Iowa on Feb. 5, Utah Valley on Feb. 10 and Northern Colorado on Feb. 12 follow.

The Bison will close out the regular season against reigning WWC and NCAA West Regional champion Wyoming on Feb. 17 in Fargo. The Cowboys also finished 28th at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

The 2012 NCAA West Regional will be held in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Saturday, March 3. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 15-17 in St. Louis, Mo.
