SCSU Youth Wrestling Clinic Set for Oct. 29

St. Cloud State University will offer its 2011 Fall Wrestling Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the University’s Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse. This clinic is open to all youth wrestlers from grades K-12, and it will feature a special appearance by guest clinician 2011 NCAA Division II champion John Sundgren.

The clinic will begin with check-in between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Oct. 29. The day will include two sessions of instruction, a motivational talk, clinic t-shirt and lunch. Clinic participants will also have the opportunity to watch the nationally ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team practice at 2:30 p.m.

The cost of the clinic is $45 per person. A special team rate of $40 per person is available for those groups/teams with 10 or more partipants who register together.

A 2011 graduate of St. Cloud State, Sundgren was a two-time All-America award winner for the Huskies. He won the NCAA Division II championship at 157-pounds in 2011, and he was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Year in 2011. Sundgren was also selected as a four-time NCAA Division II All-Academic athlete during his collegiate career with the Huskies. Blaine is a graduate of Blaine High School.

In 2010-11, SCSU enjoyed one of its best seasons in team history. The Huskies placed second in the nation at the 2011 NCAA Division II Championships, won the 2011 NCAA Division II Super Region #3 title and set a team record with a 19-2 dual meet record in 2010-11.

The second place national finish was the highest national tournament finish for the Huskies in team history, and the Huskies also posted a solid third place finish at the elite NWCA National Duals in 2011.
