Five up and coming wrestling clubs in the Midwest made a trip to Winona State to start off the wrestling season with an individual tournament on the WSU campus. Besides the host Winona State Warriors, teams attending were Univ. Minnesota Duluth, Northland International University, Iowa State Wrestling Club, and Wayne State.
Fifty wrestlers took the mats for these 5 teams and competition was some of the best seen in the four years the event has been held. Duluth won 5 weight classes followed by Iowa State winning three and Wayne State winning two weights. The host Warriors had three wrestlers come up one win short of winning titles. No team scores were kept.
Upcoming for the clubs attending are:
- Duluth wrestles Itasca this Thursday in a Dual and Winona State will attend the RCTC Yellowjacket Open next Saturday.
- Iowa State will be at NIACC next weekend and Wayne State will be in York, Nebraska.
