COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John’s wrestling team stayed at No. 6 in the most recent Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III team rankings released Nov. 9.
Other teams ranked from the NCAA Great Lakes Region include Augsburg (No. 7) and North Central College of Illinois (No.11), and new additions Concordia-Moorhead (No. 9) and Elmhurst College of Illinois (No. 14).
Senior Dustin Baxter (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) retained the No. 1 ranking at 184 pounds, while fellow senior Matt Pfarr (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) stayed at No. 4 at 174. Senior Chad Henle (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) moved up one spot to No. 4 at 133 pounds. None of the three competed at last Saturday’s season opener in Stevens Point, Wis.
Junior Nick Schuler (Roseville, Minn./Totino-Grace) cracked the top 10 as the sixth-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds following his impressive showing at Stevens Point last weekend. Schuler won the 165-pound bracket with a perfect 5-0 record, including a 7-4 win over then-No. 4 Jordan Schulte of UWSP in the semifinals. He pinned Ben Cox of NCAA Division I Wisconsin in the championship bout ([5:27]).
The Johnnies return to action at the annual Augsburg Open next Saturday, Nov. 19. The tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis.
