Minnesota State Opens Season With Victory
MANKATO, Minn. – The 12th-ranked Minnesota State wrestling team opened the 2011-12 season with a 30-18 victory over Waldorf. All six of Minnesota State’s victory came thanks to the pinfall.
Minnesota State dropped the first match at 125 pounds as senior Brian Reisenauer suffered a 3-2 loss with the match-winning point coming via riding time.
The Mavericks rebounded quickly as freshman Drew Lexvold (133 pounds), sophomore Paul Norgren (141 pounds) and junior Jesse Westphal (149 pounds) all earned decisions via fall to give MSU an 18-3 lead.
Waldorf would earn a sudden victory decision at 157 pounds before MSU’s senior Tel Todd (165 pounds) and freshman Brendan Eichmann each earned falls to seal the win. Todd’s fall came at 1:34 while Eichmann earned his fall in 56 seconds.
The Warriors earned victories in the final three matches, one by fall and two by decision.
The Mavericks (1-0) return to action Saturday, Nov. 12 as they take part in the Luther Open held in Decorah, Iowa.

133 pounds: Lexvold (Minnesota State) wins by fall over Selgin (Waldorf) in 5:22
141 pounds: Norgren (Minnesota State) wins by fall over Spates (Waldorf) in 4:48
149 pounds: Westphal (Minnesota State) wins by fall over Hunt (Waldorf) in 1:45
157 pounds: Boers (Waldorf) wins in sudden victory over Hahn (Minnesota State), 11-6
165 pounds: Todd (Minnesota State) wins by fall over Robbins (Waldorf) in 1:34
174 pounds: Eichmann (Minnesota State) wins by fall over Vasquez (Waldorf) in :56
184 pounds: Munt (Waldorf) wins by fall over Copp (Minnesota State) in 2:58
197 pounds: Binversie (Waldorf) wins by decision of Makabe (Minnesota State), 12-6
285 pounds: Combs (Waldorf) wins by fall over Pattain (Minnesota State), 8-3
