Ole wrestling team knocks off ranked Dakota Wesleyan in dual
MITCHELL, S.D.- In their first dual meet of the season, the St. Olaf wrestling team topped No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan 24-15 Wednesday night at the Christen Family Recreation/Wellness Center.
The Oles (1-0) picked up wins in six of the ten weight classes. Winning for St. Olaf were Wesley Azariah at 125, Ryan Timmerman at 141, Collin Jergenson at 165, James Roach at 174, Andrew Rudd at 184, and Elliot Courchain at 197. Azariah and Rudd won courtesy of pins, while the other four earned decisions in their favor.
Azariah pinned Zach Nelson at 2:11 to put the Oles on top 6-0. After Trever DeVestern pinned St. Olaf’s Alex Evan at 157, DWU took a 12-9 lead but the Oles proceeded to win four straight weight classes to take a 24-12. Despite Nick Hopkins dropping a 3-2 heavyweight decision, St. Olaf picked up the win. The most lobsided decision for the Oles was Timmerman’s 7-0 decision over Dusty Paulsen at 141.
The Oles head to Minneapolis on Saturday for the Auggie/Brute/Adidas Open all day event.
