FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head wrestling coach Roger Kish announced the addition of five student-athletes to the 2012 class. Clayton Cathey of Billings, Mont.; Hunter Weber of Marshall, Wis.; Justin Scherkenbach of Muskego, Wis.; Dallen Brauer of Forsyth, Mont.; and Sam Shelton of Billings, Mont. will all wrestle and continue their education at NDSU.
Cathey, a product of Skyview High School in Billings, Mont., won the 2009 state title at 105 pounds. He was the state runner-up in both 2010 (119 lbs) and 2011 (125 lbs). He was named a National High School Coaches Association All-American in 2011 after finishing fourth at the Junior Nationals.
Weber is a two-time Wisconsin state champion out of Marshall High School. He went 55-0 his junior year en route to the state title at 119 pounds and was 48-1 as a sophomore state champ at 112 pounds. Weber was the state runner-up at 103 pounds as a freshman. He won the 2011 national folkstyle title and was fifth in freestyle at the Junior Nationals in Fargo. Weber holds season records at Marshall for most wins with 55, most pins with 50 and most takedowns with 276. To date, he has 139 career pins and 538 takedowns.
Scherkenbach is a three-time state qualifier out of Muskego High School (Wis.). He took fourth place at 125 pounds as a junior and was the state runner-up as a sophomore. He was part of state title-winning teams in 2009 and 2010. Scherkenbach took second at the Folkstyle Nationals in 2011 and was fifth in 2010.
Brauer hails from Forsyth High School (Mont.). He was the Montana state runner-up at 140 pounds as a junior, helping lead Forsyth to the team title. In 2010, Brauer was the state champion at 135 pounds.
Shelton, a teammate of Cathey’s from Skyview High School (Mont.), won the Montana state title at 140 pounds in 2011. He is a two-time state runner-up, finishing second at 135 pounds in 2010 and second at 112 pounds in 2009.
