Maverick’s Todd Places First at Husky Open

St. Cloud, Minn. — MSU-Mankato senior Tel Todd went 4-0 at the Holiday Inn Husky Open en route to a first-place finish in the 157-lb weight class. Todd opened his tournament by defeating Kolby Baier (Iowa Lakes) by fall at the 6:50 mark. Todd went on to defeat both Isaiah Erickson (St. Cloud) and Brian Peterson (Minnesota) by decisions. In the championship match Todd defeated Anthony Caputo (North Dakota State) by a 12-5 decision.

Freshman 165-lb Cody Quinn finished in second-place after going 2-1 on the day. After receiving a first-round bye, Quinn won by a major decision against Cody Tibbetts (St. Cloud) 13-2. Todd went on to defeat Brandon Buhr (Augsburg) in a 3-1 decision. Dan Dick (St. Cloud) defeated Quinn 7-4 in the championship match.

Junior 149-lb Jesse Westphal, who led the Minnesota State with 11 wins entering today’s action, earned a second-place finish going 3-1. Westphal won by a tech fall over Travis Johnson (Iowa Lakes) 16-0. He went on to defeat Eric Ellington (Unattached) by fall at 4:30 and Aaron Heidersheid (UW-Parkside) in a 6-0 decision. Westphal fell to Tony Valek (Augsburg) in a 8-0 decision in the championship match.

Senior 125-lb Brian Reisenauer opened his tournament by defeating Jacob Papke (UW-Parkside) in an 11-4 decision. The senior went on to lose his next two matches en route to a fourth-place finish.

Sophomore 174-lb Brendan Eichmann went 2-2 on his way to a fourth-place finish. After receiving an opening-round bye, Eichmann defeated Jack Barnes (St. Cloud) by fall at 2:20. The sophomore went on to defeated Nick Jazdzewski (Luther) by a 12-4 decision before losing his next two matches.
