Ridgewater Wrestling is off to a great start

Ridgewater Wrestling is off to a great start this season booth academically and athletically. They mark the first half of their duals season with 2-2 record.

The Warriors have also had some strong individual performances entering the holiday break. Their sophomores are led by Javier Portillo who has a 13- 5 record. His brother Mariano Portillo and Lonny Booshu are both right behind, each with a 13-6 record.

Freshmen are led by two solid wrestlers – Klinton Van Heuveln with a 18-6 record and Shane Fessenmaier with a 16-6 record. “We are excited to see how the team improves the second half of the year,” said Ridgewater Coach Tom Beyer.

“With all of this success on the mat, the most exciting part of this group is their academic performance in the classroom,” said Beyer.

The GPA for the entire team the first semester was 3.12. However using the NJCAA twelve member team format to determining team GPA, Ridgewater’s GPA for Fall Semester is 3.46. “One of our goals as a team was to get our GPA over three,” said Beyer.

Up next for the Warriors is The Ridgewater Open, a tournament for freshmen and sophomores on Saturday January 7th.

The following day, January 8th, Ridgewater Wrestling is hosting an Elementary Tournament on campus. Weigh-ins will begin 11:30 am and Wrestling will start at 1:00 pm.
