Augustana improves in national, regional rankings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana climbed to third in the nation and No. 2 in the region and remained second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in the latest polls released Wednesday.

In the national poll released by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association, Augustana climbed two spots and is tied for third with Upper Iowa after receiving 135 points.


Conference-opponent St. Cloud State is ranked No. 1 in the nation (160 points), region (56 points) and NSIC (67 points).

Newberry (S.C.) also checked in ahead of the Vikings in the national poll with 152 points.

Augustana earned 44 points in Super Region Three to move up one spot from last week, bettering Upper Iowa by two points.

With 58 points, the Vikings remained second in the NSIC.

Nate Herda kept his No. 1 spot in the nation, region and conference at 149 pounds.

At 133 pounds, Jason Jeremiason is ranked second in the nation, Super Region Three and NSIC.

Chism Fink, a 141-pounder, is second in the nation and first in the region and conference.

Marcus Edgington, 157 pounds, is third in the nation, second in the region and first in the NSIC.

Carl Serck is fourth in the nation, third in the Super Region Three and second in the conference at 174 pounds.

Cody Lensing is No. 6 in the nation, No. 4 in the region and No. 3 in the NSIC at 125 pounds.

The Vikings also have Tom Davies (No.6 region/No. 4 NSIC at 165 pounds), Brian Schultz (No. 4 region/No. 2 NSIC) Jayd Docken (No. 4 region/No. 3 NSIC) and Mike Roberts (No. 7 region/No. 6 NSIC) ranked in the region and conference.

Augustana (9-1, 1-0 NSIC) takes to the road for a pair of NSIC duals this weekend. Augustana visits No. 1 and unbeaten St. Cloud State (16-0, 3-0 NSIC) for a 7 p.m. match Friday at Halenbeck Hall in Saint Cloud, Minn. The Vikings are guests of Minnesota State (2-5, 0-0 NSIC) on Saturday for a 7 p.m. encounter at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
