SCSU Wrestling Ranked #1 in NCAA DII Super Region 3

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (16-0, 3-0 NSIC) maintained its number one ranking in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region 3 rankings, which were released on Jan. 25.

The Huskies were tops on the regional list with 56 points, followed by Augustana (44), Upper Iowa (42), UW-Parkside (23), Maryville (17), MSU Mankato (14), Indianapolis (12), Mary (9), MSU-Moorhead (7), Northern State (7), Southwest Minnesota State (6), Newman (3).

SCSU placed several wrestlers at the top of the regional rankings for the individual brackets. Senior Tad Merritt (Canby) was ranked #1 in the region at 165-pounds, while senior Derek Skala (Owatonna) was ranked #1 at 184-pounds. Senior Lucas Munkelwitz (Forest Lake) was ranked first at 197-pounds and junior Jake Kahnke (Shakopee) was ranked number one at 285-pounds.

Junior Shamus O’Grady (Coon Rapids) was ranked #2 in the region at 174-pounds, while Jacob Horn received a #3 ranking at 157-pounds. SCSU redshirt fresh Josh Howk (Blue Springs, Mo.) was ranked #5 at 149 and freshman Jay Hildreth (Council Bluffs, Iowa) was ranked fifth at 141-pounds.

At 125-pounds, sophomore Dylan Wright (Inver Grove Heights) was ranked fifth in the region and at 133-pounds, junior Andy Pokorny (Bennington, Neb.) was ranked fourth in the Super 3 Region.

The Huskies will get back to action on Jan. 27 with a 7 p.m. home match in Halenbeck Hall against Augustana (ranked #2 in the region this week). On Jan. 28, the Huskies will travel to Canby, Minn. for a match against Southwest Minnesota State in the gym at Canby H.S. The match there will begin at 7 p.m.
