Augustana dips in national, region rankings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana dropped to No. 5 in the national rankings, dipped to third regionally and kept its No. 2 spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in polls released this week.

The Vikings received 127.5 points in the Division II rankings conducted by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Augustana was tied for third in the last rankings on Jan. 25.


Augustana’s 34 points in the Super Region Three rankings dropped it from second to third, while the Vikings stayed at second in the NSIC with 49 points.

St. Cloud State remained the top-ranked team in the nation, region and conference.

Nate Herda is still the top-ranked wrestler in the nation, region and conference at 149 pounds.

At 141 pounds, Chism Fink checked in third in the country, second in the region and NSIC.

Marcus Edgington is third in the nation, second in the Super Region Three and first in the NSIC at 157 pounds.

Carl Serck is No. 4 in the country, No. 3 in the region and second in the conference at 174 pounds.

Jason Jeremiason, a 133-pounder, is ranked fifth in the nation, third in the region and second in the conference.

Other Viking appearances included Cody Lensing (125, No. 6 region/No. 5 NSIC), Matt Morris (165, No. 7 region/No. 5 NSIC), Jayd Docken (No. 4 region/No. 3 NSIC), Sean Derry (No. 6 region/No. 4 NSIC) and Taylor Harris (No. 8 region/No. 6 NSIC).

Augustana (12-2, 4-1 NSIC) visits No. 3 Upper Iowa (9-1, 5-0 NSIC) on Friday in NSIC action beginning at 7 p.m. at Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa.
