Mavericks Defeat Mustangs 23-15 in Regular Season Finale

Marshall, Minn. — After alternating wins up to 165-lb, Minnesota State used back-to-back wins at 174-lb and 184-lb to catapolt them to a 23-15 win over Southwest Minnesota State University.

The win tonight is Jim Makovsky’s 250th career win as a head coach!

David Demo opened the night with a 11-5 decision win over Travis Borchert at 125-lb. MSU would win matches at 141-lb and 157-lb and drop matches at 133-lb, 149-lb and 165-lb, two of which were major decision losses before Brendan Eichmann defeated Trent Molacek by a major decision 13-5 in the 174-lb bout. Brandon Pederson backup up the Eichmann win with a pin of Micah Larson at 4:12 in the 184-lb showdown.

After dropping the 197-lb match, Nate Haynes sealed the victory for the Mavericks with a 5-4 decision win over Brian Rodas.

MSU, who finishes the regular season 5-9, will travel to St. Cloud on Sunday to compete in regionals.

Southwest Minnesota State will also pick up action on Feb. 26 at the Super Region Three Tournament hosted by St. Cloud State University.
