Mound-Westonka Hall of Fame inducts four

On February 9, 2012, Ted Saatzer, Bill Koehnen, Bill Niccum and the late Fritz Soule were inducted into the Mound Westonka Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Ted Saatzer
Ted was a 2005 graduate of Mound Westonka High School, and was captain his junior and senior year. Ted was a four-time Metro Alliance all-conference winner, and was part of four conference championship and two section runner-up teams. Ted had a dominant senior season, going 41-2 and winning a section championship. Ted is currently fourth all-time in career victories at Mound Westonka with 133 wins.

Bill Koehnen
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Mound High School and was captain his senior year. Bill was a three time conference champion, two time state entrant, and capped off an undefeated senior season with a state title. Bill’s team was also 2nd in state to Blue Earth in his senior year. In addition to this, Bill was the Northwest AAU and Iowa Teachers Invitational champion. Bill continued his wrestling career at the University of Minnesota, where he placed 3rd and 4th in the Big Ten, and was part of the 1959 Big Ten Champion team.

Bill Niccum
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Mound High School. Bill was a three-time Region Five champion, and placed third in state his junior year. Bill had an incredible senior season, placing fourth in state, and had twenty consecutive pins during the dual meet season, which included a two-time state champion from Robbinsdale. Bill was also part of the state runner-up team and was the Iowa State College Invitational champion his senior year.

Fritz Soule
Fritz was a 1944 graduate of Mound High School. Fritz was a four-time region champion and four-time state place winner, earning third place finishes his freshman and sophomore years, and was a state-runner up in his junior and senior seasons. Fritz was elected to the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame in 1980. Fritz continued to contribute to the wrestling program after graduation, serving as an assistant coach and then Athletic Director in the 1970’s and 80’s. As A.D., Fritz was a huge proponent of wrestling, hosting many district and region tournaments as well as the Verne Gagne Invitational.
