Burnsville, Minn. — Minnesota State University Junior Jesse Westphal has been named as the Northern Sun Conference Wrestler of the week announced by conference officials Monday morning.
Westphal is coming off of a 2-0 weekend which was highlighted the upset of the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation, Trevor Johnson of U-Mary. Westphal’s 7-4 decision win was sparked by an early second period escape and a three point near fall. Westphal opened the weekend with a 7-2 win over Gavin Larsen of Northern State.
Westphal, a Janesville, Minn. native, is now 21-8 on the year, including a 4-1 NSIC record.
Westphal and the Mavericks are set to host No. 1 St. Cloud State Thursday night at 7 p.m.
