PUEBLO, Colo. – Augustana’s Cody Lensing is the recipient of the Elite 89 award for wrestling, the NCAA announced Saturday. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships.
Lensing, a senior from Moundsview, Minn., finished runner-up at 125 pounds at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, earning the first All-America honors of his career. He carries a 3.96 GPA as a biochemistry major.
The Vikings finished tied for 10th in the team standings. It was their third straight top-10 national finish.
Lensing is the second Augustana student-athlete to earn the award. Matt Braithwaite, a cross country runner, picked up the accolade in 2010.
