Five Mavericks Honored for Academic Excellence

Manheim, Pa. — Minnesota State University Senior 157-lb Tel Todd# and junior 149-lb Jesse Westphal have been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as All-Academic first team.

Todd, a Bozeman, Mont. native, accumulated a 3.76 GPA with a human biology major. Todd finished his senior campaign with a 29-11 record while compiling a 92-55 overall record as a Maverick.

Westphal, a law enforcement major, accumulated a 3.65 GPA. The Janesville, Minn. native finished 24-11 this season and owns a 51-40 career record at Minnesota State.

Honorable Mention

Brendan Eichmann: physical education – 3.11 GPA
Alex Folk: manufacturing engineering – 3:01 GPA
Derek Hahn: business administration – 3.06 GPA

To be eligible the student-athlete must maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year of school, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minumum of two letters of recommendation submitted on his behalf.

The 2011-12 Division II All-Academic Wrestling Team consists of 164 student-athletes from 40 universities and colleges. Thirty-seven athletes were named to the first team, 45 to the second team, and 82 honorable mention.
