Mavericks’ Demo and Quinn Survive and Advance at NCAA Championship

Pueblo, Colo. — MSU-Mankato’s David Demo (125-lb) and Cody Quinn (165-lb) both endured opening-round defeats before rebounding to record pins in the second round and wins in their third match. By advancing to day-two at the NCAA Championships, both Demo and Quinn have ensured themselves of All-American honors.

Demo fell to No. 7 Ben Sergent (Findlay) 6-4 to open the tournament. The Bozeman, Mont. native bounced back and pinned Dustin Stiegemeyer (Western State) at 4:40 and defeated Gerald Huff (Adams State) in a 10-2 major decision. Demo will face Kenny Trumbetta (SHU) tomorrow.

Quinn took a similar path, falling to the nation’s top-ranked wrestler Mike Williams (UNC-Pembroke) 7-1. Quinn went on to pin Thomas Graszi (Ashland) at 4:55. Quinn solidified himself as an All-American by defeating Blake Sorenson (Upper Iowa) 3-1. Quinn will face Matt Vandermeer (LEC) tomorrow.
