Blake Sorensen (165lbs, Fr., Denver, Iowa / Denver HS)
Upper Iowa University
Sorensen was voted by the league coaches as the 2011-12 NSIC Rookie of the Year. Sorensen was the runner-up at 165 pounds at the NCAA Super Region #3 Championships, losing only to SCSU’s Tad Merritt (the NCAA’s Most Dominate Wrestler in 2012). He finished with a 21-12 record and won his class at the Brute Adidas Open and was third at the Loras Open. A national qualifier, Sorensen went 1-2 at the National Championships.
NSIC Coach of the Year
Steve Costanzo
6th Season
St. Cloud State University
St. Cloud State Head Coach Steve Costanzo was voted by his peers for the second consecutive season as the NSIC Wrestling Coach of the Year. St. Cloud State enjoyed its best seasons in team history as they placed second in the nation for the second straight year at the 2012 NCAA Division II championships; won the 2012 NCAA Division II Super Region #3 title and set a team record with a 21-0 dual meet record in 2011-12. The second place national finish tied for the highest national tournament finish for the Huskies in team history, and the Huskies took top honors for the first time at the elite NWCA National Duals in 2012. Coach Costanzo’s overall record at SCSU currently stands at 79-23.
