Six from Augustana collect All-NSIC laurels

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Six Augustana wrestlers are All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the league office announced Thursday.

Nate Herda was a first-team honoree, while Cody Lensing, Jason Jeremiason, Chism Fink, Carl Serck and Sean Derry were second-team performers.

Herda, a junior 141-pounder from Rock Rapids, Iowa, finished 23-8 this season, was the Super Region Three champion and qualified for nationals for the third time in his career. This is his third selection to the all-conference first team.

A senior from Moundsview, Minn., Lensing went 18-6 this season en route to a national runner-up finish and All-America honors at 125 pounds. He also finished third at the region tournament.

Jeremiason, a native of Marshall, Minn., charted a 20-5 mark in 2011-12 at 133 pounds. The senior was an All-American after finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships. Jeremiason, who was also an All-NSIC second-team honoree last season, placed third at the Super Region Three Championships.

Fink is a senior from Harrisburg, S.D. The 141-pounder placed fourth nationally to earn All-America accolades and was a second-place regional finisher. He went 15-6 this season.

Serck, a senior from Hudson, S.D., went 26-5 at 174 pounds, placed third at the Super Region Three Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career.

A sophomore from Omaha, Neb., Derry wrestled his way to nationals after placing third at the region tournament. He finished the season with a record of 18-14.

The highest place winner from the NSIC at the region tournament is named all-conference first team; the second-highest place winner is named second team. Additionally, any NSIC wrestler who earns All-America status is named second team.

Augustana went 13-3 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC (third place) in 2011-12. The Vikings finished tied for 10th at the NCAA Championships and returned with three All-Americans.
