Minnesota wrestlers advance in Olympic trials

IOWA CITY – It’s always tough, Dan Chandler said, when Minnesota’s Greco-Roman wrestlers have to compete against each other. But the coach of the Minnesota Storm wrestling club was delighted Saturday morning when two of his own — Jordan Holm and Chas Betts — advanced to the finals of the 84-kilogram weight class at the U.S. Olympic wrestling trials, assuring that at least one Minnesotan will make the Olympic team.

Betts, of St. Michael, and Holm, of Northfield, will wrestle each other in Saturday night’s finals at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Former Gopher C.P. Schlatter also made the finals and will face two-time world bronze medalist Justin Lester in the 66 kg Greco-Roman class. The finals are a best-of-three-matches format, and the winner will earn the lone U.S. Olympic berth at each weight. Continue reading at startribune.com
