Wasmund named new Head Coach at Apple Valley

Apple Valley High School has announced the hiring of Dalen Wasmund as the new Head Wrestling coach. He replaces Jim Jackson who retired from coaching earlier in the spring.

Wasmund has a long history with wrestling in Minnesota. As a competitor, he was a two-time Minnesota State Champion at Worthington High School and finished his career with a 117-4 record. Wasmund went on to wrestle at the University of Minnesota, earning All-American honors twice. He was also a member of two World Teams and was a two-time Olympic alternate.

Dalen Wasmund has been coaching wrestling for 30 years. He began at Apple Valley High School in 1982 and was with the staff for eight years. During that time, the team won three state championships and was runners-up three times. In 1990, he became the head coach at Eagan High School, where he served in that role for 10 years. Wasmund returned to Apple Valley High School in 2000 and became a varsity assistant, having the opportunity to coach his sons in both wrestling and football. He has been with the Apple Valley staff during the past 12 years, helping coach the team to 11 state championships. In 2011, Wasmund was named the National Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year.

Dalen Wasmund is a mathematics teacher at Apple Valley High School, having taught in ISD 196 for 30 years. He currently teaches both Algebra and Calculus classes.
