Three-time state champion Short to Minnesota

Three-time state champion Jake Short of Simley has given a verbal commitment to attend the University of Minnesota and wrestle for the Gophers following his upcoming senior season.

Short is a three-time state champion. He won the 145-pound Class AA state championship this past season as a junior. He won the 140-pound title as a sophomore and the 130 pound title as a freshman. He helped Simley win team state championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Short has also had great success in USA Wrestling competition. Jake was a double Junior All-American in 2011 placing first in folkstyle and second in freestyle. He was a double Cadet National Champion in 2010 placing first in folkstyle and freestyle.

Short currently has a 189-20 record and is ranked as the 7th overall senior recruit in the nation by InterMat. He is projected to wrestle at 149 or 157 in college.

Jake’s father and high school coach Will Short was an All-American for J Robinson and the Gophers in 1993.
