MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team swept all 10 matches in a 41-0 dual win over Jamestown College Wednesday night at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM improved to 2-0 in duals on the season.
“We came out and got a good start out of Angel Vega and that set the tone,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. “He wrestled aggressive, and we wrestled aggressive throughout the whole dual.”
At 141 pounds, Vega built a 4-1 lead over Jamestown’s Tony Borden with a pair of takedowns in the first period and stretched it to 9-1 in the second period. From there he cruised to a 19-4 win by technical fall to give the Dragons their first five points of the dual.
Junior Casey Williams had a solid match at 149, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to earn a 6-3 decision win over Jamestown’s Sam Brown.
Senior Jacob Bennett made his season debut for MSUM and was solid at 157, earning a 6-2 decision win over Jamestown’s Jaykob Miller as the Dragon lead grew to 11-0.
Kerron Williams continued his solid start to the season for MSUM, earning a 12-4 major decision win at 165 pounds to push the Dragon advantage to 15-0. The dominance continued at 174 as redshirt freshman Jesse Puncochar recorded a 8-0 major decision win over Tyler Davison.

MSUM’s lone pin came at 197, as Lewellen pinned Jamestown’s Brian Kaehler in just 1:57. After a win by forfeit at heavyweight, the Dragons held a commanding 34-0 lead.
“We were taking a lot of shots,” Nelson said. “We weren’t sitting back and being defensive. I was happy that everyone wrestled to their ability.”
The Dragons concluded the shutout with a win by freshman Mitch Dunlap at 125, a 4-3 victory over Joey Murillo. Phillippe Walker wrapped up the match with a major decision at 133, an 18-8 major decision win.
