#3 St. Cloud State Wrestling Opens 2013 at GCU Duals

The #3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (3-0, 1-0 NSIC) will open the new year with a trip to the Grand Canyon Dual in Phoenix, Ariz. on Jan. 5.  This marks the third consecutive season that the Huskies have competed in the Grand Canyon Duals, which features many of the nation’s premiere NCAA Division II programs.

SCSU HuskiesThe tournament will once again be hosted this season by #6 Grand Canyon University at the GCU Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.  Last year, the Huskies charted a 4-0 record with wins over California Baptist, Colorado Mesa, Mercyhurst and GCU.  In fact, SCSU owns a perfect 8-0 record in two seasons of competition at the GCU Duals.

The Huskies will open tournament action on Jan. 5 with a 9 a.m. match on mat one against Western State College.  SCSU will continue the action on Jan. 5 with a 10:45 a.m. dual against Colorado Mesa on mat 2, and then the Huskies will match up against California Baptist at 12:30 p.m. on mat 3.  The day will be completed for the Huskies with a match against Chadron State on mat 4 at 4 p.m.

Of note, Colorado Mesa is ranked #17 in the latest Division II national poll, while Western State received votes in the DII national poll.

The Huskies are led this season by redshirt senior #3 Shamus O’Grady, who owns a 14-1 record for the Huskies at 184-pounds and redshirt freshman Clint Poster, who owns a 14-1 record at 157-pounds.

133 pounds – Jared Kust (7-4) or #2 Andy Pokorny (6-1)
141 pounds – Jay Hildreth (12-4) or Matt Nelson (9-4)
149 pounds – Josh Howk (8-2) or #7 Jacob D. Horn (6-3)
157 pounds – Clint Poster (14-1)
165 pounds – Jack Barnes (4-6) or Gabe Fogarty (8-2)
174 pounds – Ben McPhail (4-3) or Kurt Salmen (3-3)
184 pounds – #3 Shamus O’Grady (14-1)
197 pounds – Chris Brassell (6-1)
285 pounds – Jacob Kahnke (2-0) or Caleb White (5-2)
