St. Cloud State 33, Saint John’s 6

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 3 (Division II) St. Cloud State won the first six matches in a 33-6 win at No. 27 (Division III) Saint John’s on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Collegeville.

Saint John's JohnniesSCSU (2-0 dual record) built a 19-0 lead until the Johnnies (3-4 dual record) ended the skid with a pair of matches at 165 and 174 pounds. Senior Chris Stevermer (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake), who is ranked No. 10 at 157 pounds by, just missed a major decision with a 13-6 win at 165.

Junior Nick Schuler (Roseville, Minn./Totino-Grace) improved to 6-0 on the year with a 9-3 win at 174.

Freshman John Wells (Janesville, Wis./Milton) and senior Cody Goldschmidt (Waconia, Minn./BOLD) lost one-point decisions at 125 and 149 pounds, respectively.

The Johnnies return to action in the new year with the Concordia (Wis.) Duals on Jan. 12 in Mequon, Wis. SJU is scheduled to face Wisconsin-Oshkosh (9:30 a.m.), Lakeland of Wisconsin (11 a.m.), the host Falcons (12:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (2 p.m.).

SCSU will continue its season on Dec. 15 with a 2 p.m. dual match at home against Minot State.  The match has been designated as Youth Day and all youth (grades K-12) will be admitted for just $1 to the match at Halenbeck Hall.  Tickets are available at the gate or by visiting
