St. Cloud, Minn. – The #3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (3-0, 1-0 NSIC) gained a decisive 49-0 victory over Minot State (1-2, 0-2 NSIC) on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.
The victory kicked off the 2012-13 NSIC dual meet season for the Huskies, who are the defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champs. This marked the Huskies’ 29th consecutive dual meet victory for Coach Steve Costanzo.
The match opened at 125-pounds with a forfeit win for St. Cloud State, which provided SCSU with a quick 6-0 lead in the dual. At 133-pounds, Jared Kust gained a 7-2 victory over Minot’s Josh Douglas to push the lead to 9-0.
At 141-pounds, SCSU’s Jay Hildreth scored the first fall of the day with a pin at 1:05 over Minot’s Flynn Stormer. SCSU’s Josh Howk earned the second Husky fall of the day at 2:38 in his match at 149-pounds.
Clint Poster, who is 14-1 in action at 157-pounds for the Huskies this season, made the match score 25-0 with a 13-2 major decision victory against Minot’s Marcus Polak. Jack Barnes also gained a major for the Huskies with an 18-4 win at 165-pounds.
At 174-pounds, SCSU’s Ben McPhail earned an 8-2 win that made the score 32-0. #3 Shamus O’Grady added five more points for the Huskies with a tech fall win at 184-pounds at 4:30 (21-3) against Minot’s Cody George.
The Huskies clinched the win with two more falls in the upper weights. Chris Brassell posted a 5:37 pin at 197-pounds and Caleb White gained a 4:21 fall in action at 285-pounds.
The Huskies will enjoy a few days off for the holidays before returning to action on Jan. 5 at the Grand Canyon Duals in Phoenix, Ariz.
