Gophers wrestlers fall to Iowa 16-15 on tiebreaker

Minnesota redshirt junior heavyweight Tony Nelson strode to the mat Saturday, Jan. 26, with the confidence that comes with being a defending NCAA Division I champion.

His task seemed attainable.

Nelson, ranked No. 2 nationally, needed to defeat Iowa’s Bobby Telford, ranked No. 8, by an eight-point margin. A major decision would give the No. 3-ranked Gophers four team points, just enough to rally past No. 4 Iowa in front of 8,254 at Williams Arena. Continue reading at
