Blue Earth Area, New London-Spicer, and Eastview All Repeat As MWCA Academic State Champions

All three of the 2012 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association (MWCA) state academic team champions repeated for 2013. Blue Earth Area for the second straight year posted the highest team g.p.a in the state with a 3.92 team g.p.a. to defend their class A crown. In class AA, New London-Spicer posted a 3.88 team g.p.a to win the academic crown for the third straight year. Eastview was able to make it three of the last four class AAA titles with a 3.74 team g.p.a..

Each year the MWCA recognizes teams that have a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. Teams take the top 10 grade point averages from their 19-man section team roster to submit on their application for the award. Teams that have a 3.0-3.49 team g.p.a. receive a silver plaque, while teams with a 3.50-4.00 g.p.a. earn a gold plaque. This year 47 teams received the silver plaque and another 56 earned the gold plaque. The 103 teams earning plaques in 2013 is one of the highest totals ever. Twenty-one of the twenty-four teams that qualified for the state tournament earned an academic team plaque.
