New rules for Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling take effect immediately

New Greco-Roman and freestyle rules passed by FILA (international governing body for wrestling) will be used at all competitions moving forward.

Here is a summary of the new scoring rules:

GRECO-ROMAN
Two 3-minute periods with a 30 second break between periods
Cumulative scoring, not individual period scoring
2 point takedowns
1 point reversal
2 point gut wrenches- hand to hand, across the back, still 2 points

FREESTYLE
Two 3-minute periods with a 30 second break between periods
cumulative scoring
2 point takedowns
1 point reversals
2 point gut wrenches or ankle laces, hand to hand or shoulder.
