Southwest Minnesota State wrestlers Justin Reinsma and Kyle Begin are individually ranked in the preseason NCAA Division II National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. The announcement came from the association on Wednesday.
Justin Reinsma, a senior at 133 pounds is ranked No. 7 and coming off a campaign in which he went 28-9 and took seventh place at the NCAA national tournament to earn All-American status in back-to-back years. Reinsma is looking to be the first Mustang in program history to achieve All-American status three times in a career at the NCAA Division II level. SMSU’s Bill McDonald was a four-time All-American at the NAIA level from 1986-89, his best finish was second place.
Kyle Begin, a sophomore at 174 pounds is also ranked No. 7. Begin was ranked as high as No. 7 last season in which he finished with a record of 19-4. The Anoka, Minn., native captured the 174 crown by going 4-0 at the NCAA Super Region 3 tournament and earned the No. 1 seed at the NCAA national tournament.
Southwest Minnesota State University will begin the season at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D., on Nov. 3.
