Monk Ranked Fifth in Nation, Zillmer Climbs to 14th

North Dakota State senior wrestler Steven Monk moved to No. 5 at 165 pounds in national rankings released Tuesday by Intermat and Amateur Wrestling News following his decision over 2013 NCAA All-American Michael Moreno of Iowa State.

NDSU BisonMonk posted a 6-2 decision over Moreno, who entered the Dec. 14 dual against NDSU with a 12-2 record and was ranked No. 5 in the nation by Intermat and No. 7 by AWN. Monk improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in duals for the Bison this season.

Sophomore 174-pounder Hayden Zillmer climbed to No. 14 in the AWN rankings and No. 17 in the Intermat poll, marking the highest national rankings of his career. Zillmer owns a 9-3 record this season, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents.

NDSU will compete at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., on Dec. 29-30.
