Schiller Earns Big Ten Honors

After defeating No. 1 Meeks, Scott Schiller earns Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honors

MINNEAPOLIS — University of Minnesota redshirt junior, Scott Schiller, was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after a standout performance for the Gophers on Saturday evening against Oregon State.

Schiller, an All-American, helped lead the Gophers to a 28-12 victory over No. 9 Oregon State as he posted a 3-1 sudden overtime victory over then No. 1 Taylor Meeks. The bout was a rematch of an earlier matchup between the two top-ranked wrestlers at 197-pounds where Meeks was able to come away with the victory.

Minnesota GophersThe win over Meeks marked the third-consecutive dual win for Schiller this season. Last season, Schiller’s only dual loss was to Meeks, who was then ranked No. 10.

With the victory over Meeks, Schiller moves into the top spot in the 197-pound weight class. This is the second Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor for Schiller.

The Gophers will travel to take on Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CT. Schiller will likely take on No. 9 Blake Rosholt.
