BURNSVILLE, Minn. — The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has named Minnesota State freshman Darick Vancura the NSIC Wrestler of the Week.
A native of Lakefield, Minn., Vancura helped the Mavericks open their conference schedule with a pair of wins at Minot State (31-9) and at the University of Mary (30-12).
Vancura finished the weekend with a 2-0 record as he recorded a major decision (14-2) against Minot State’s Tiger Paasch and a tech fall (17-2) against Riley Nagel from the University of Mary.
Vancura is the first Maverick to garner NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors this season and the first since David Demo received the award during the 2012-13 season.
MSU returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 8, as it hosts Newberry College, at 7 p.m.
