Rochester Commuity & Technical College competed at the NJCAA North Central District Tournament on Sunday February 16th in Spencer, Iowa. The Yellowjackets qualified all ten wrestlers to the NJCAA National Tournament which will be held on February 28-March 1st in Spokane, Wash.
“We qualified all 10 wrestlers and this is the only time since I have been coaching that we have done that,” said Rochester Coach Randy Rager. “We were also the only team at the District to qualify all 10 wrestlers.”
Rochester placed third overall in a field of ten teams that include five scholarship Iowa schools and five non-scholarship Minnesota schools. Placing ahead of Rochester was Iowa Central (1st place) and Ellsworth (2nd place).
The NJCAA North Central District is also used to determine the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) State Championship. Rochester is the 2014 MCAC State Champions by placing ahead of Ridgewater (7th place), Itasca (8th), Northland (9th) and Minnesota West (10th).
“I did see some outstanding wrestling from some individuals, but as a team I don’t think that we have reached our full potential yet,” said Rager. “This next week of practice will be crucial in preparing the guys for Spokane.”
