The #3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (19-1, 8-0 NSIC) will travel to Edmond, Okla. on Feb. 28 and March 1 for the 2014 NCAA Division II Super Region 3 tournament. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. on Feb. 28 and the final rounds will start at 1 p.m. on March 1.

The Huskies are the three-time defending Super Region 3 wrestling champions and they have also finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Division II championships for three consecutive seasons in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The Huskies captured top honors in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2014 with a perfect 8-0 dual match record.
Teams slated to compete at the upcoming regional include: Augustana, Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Fort Hays State, Lindenwood, Mary, Minnesota State-Mankato, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Minot State, Nebraska-Kearney, Newman, Northern State, Ouachita Baptist, St. Cloud State, Southwest Minnesota State, Truman State and Upper Iowa.
In the latest NCAA Division II national rankings released on Feb 24, the Huskies were ranked third in the nation behind Notre Dame (Ohio) and defending NCAA champs Nebraska-Kearney. The lone loss charted by the Huskies in 2013-14 was against Notre Dame (Ohio) in the semifinals of the NWCA Division II national duals. The Huskies captured third place at this year’s NWCA Division II national duals.
In the individual rankings released this week, SCSU’s Andy Pokorny was ranked number one in the nation at 133-pounds. Pokorny owns a perfect 12-0 record this season at 133-pounds. SCSU freshman Austin Goergen moved up to number two in the national poll at 285-pounds this week. He gained the top spot in the latest NCAA Division II Most Dominant Wrestler standings last week and will bring an impressive 27-4 record in the regional, which includes a team-high 13 pins. At 141-pounds, SCSU sophomore Matt Nelson is currently ranked fifth in the nation with a 10-5 record, while sophomore Clint Poster is ranked fifth in the country at 157-pounds. Poster currently owns a 26-6 record.
Other members of SCSU’s 20-win club this season include Tanner Johnshoy at 125-pounds (22-8) and Clayton Jennissen at 174-pounds (21-11). Of note, the Huskies did not wrestle last week in preparation for the upcoming regional tournament. SCSU is led once again this winter by head coach Steve Costanzo, who has charted a 119-24 record in eight seasons with the Huskies.
