FAYETTE, Iowa – Minnesota State wrestling lost its eighth dual falling to #7 Upper Iowa, 26-12.
MSU falls to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in NSIC play. UIU moves up to 14-1-1 on the season and 6-0 in conference action.
The Mavericks lost six of the 10 matches on the night including giving up two falls and two major decisions. Alphonso Vruno (So., 141 lbs.) and Scott VanDeLoo (So., 184 lbs.) each won their respective weight class with decisions. Vruno defeated Jordan Roths by a score of 10-5 while VanDeLoo defeated Brock Gobin 1-0.
Adam Cooling (Fr., 157 lbs.) won his seventh-straight match with a decision win over Zak Benitz, 3-2. Darick Vancura (Fr., 165 lbs.) moved up one weight class and ended up on the losing end in a sudden victory, 3-1. The weight change brought former All-American, Brendan Eichmann (Sr., 174 lbs.) to the 174 lbs. weight class and he beat Trevor Duke by a score of 9-2.
MSU will host #4 St. Cloud State on Feb. 13th in Taylor Center. MSU Seniors Eichmann, CJ Hays (Sr., 197 lbs.) and Corby Running (Sr., 285 lbs.) will be celebrating senior night with the dual slated for 7 p.m.
