OKLAHOMA CITY – North Dakota State senior 165-pounder Steven Monk had his 29-match winning streak snapped in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships Friday evening, March 21, inside Chesapeake Energy Arena, dropping a 13-5 major decision to undefeated and No. 1 seeded David Taylor (33-0) of Penn State.
Monk (34-2) will wrestle 11th-seeded Turtogto Luvsandorj (38-7) of The Citadel Saturday morning for a spot in the third-place match.
The Wausau, Wis., native has already achieved All-America status after winning his quarterfinal match Friday morning against Bloomburg’s Josh Veltre (24-7) via a pin at 6:41. Monk is the second Bison wrestler to become an All-American in the North Dakota State NCAA Division I era.
