Munos and Miller All-Americans
The Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets concluded their season this past weekend in Spokane, Washington at the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament.
The team placed first among non-scholarship colleges at the event and 11th overall. “I knew that we had the capability to win our division, but our team goal was to place in the top five overall. I’m not going to say that I’m disappointed, but I believe some of the guys had some matches that will eat at them for a while,” noted Coach Rager. Their placing is high enough to qualify RCTC for the Nationals Duals next season.
Earning All-American honors for the second year in a row was Garret Miller. Miller went 4-1 in the tournament with four falls to place third at 174 pounds. His lone loss was in his semifinals match in overtime. Miller has signed to continue his education and wrestling career at Saint Cloud State University next year. “Garret has been a valuable asset to our program. He is a great leader and good person. I’m happy he was able to finish his career at RCTC with a win and as an All-American,” said Coach Rager.
Also earning All-American honors was Joe Munos. Munos went 4-2 to capture fourth place at 141 pounds. Joe dropped his semifinal match to the eventual champion Zach Loveless of Northwest College. Munos plans on attending RCTC next season and competing in open tournaments.
Also picking up victories in the tournament were Dakota Trom (125 pounds), Label Lewis (133), Josh Vaughan (197), and Mike Dyer (285).
Coach Randy Rager was also voted the NJCAA Coach of the Year. “It’s a great honor to receive this award, especially since it is voted on by the other coaches. This was a great season for our program, and we will continue to progressively get better.” said Rager.
