INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced released the brackets for the Division II Wrestling Championships on March 14 and 15 in Cleveland, Ohio. Augustana’s TJ North and Jayd Docken earned bids to the national meet with their performances at the NCAA Super Region III Championships this past weekend.
At 125 pounds, North won the region championship to secure his berth at the NCAA Championships and now holds a 30-3 overall record with a 19-0 mark against Division II competition. The sophomore from Elk Point, S.D. will take on Patrick Mestrez of Belmont Abbey in his first round bout.
Returning to the NCAA Championships at 197 pounds is 2013 All-American Jayd Docken. Docken advanced to the semifinals before suffering a narrow decision loss then reeled of two more wins to take third at the NCAA Super Region III Championships. With a 17-3 record on the season, Docken will take on Paco Retana of Colorado Mesa University in the first round.
The Vikings finished ninth as a team at the NCAA Super Region III Championships with 53.5 points in the loaded region that sends 50 athletes to the 160-wrestler field — the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference will be sending 19 athletes.
