MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling coach Kris Nelson has announced that Evan Forde has been named an assistant coach for the Dragons.
Forde, a 2011 MSUM graduate and former Dragon wrestler, comes back to his alma mater after serving as an assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State the past three seasons.
“I am very excited to have Evan Forde join our staff,” Nelson said. “Evan has experience coaching at the college level and has recruited in the region. He has a good idea of the talent that’s available and has many high school and college connections that will help in the recruiting process. I coached Evan in my first two seasons at MSUM and he was a very hard worker in the classroom and on the mat. I know that same hard work will carry over into his coaching.”
A Fargo, N.D., native, Forde was a four-year letterwinner in the Dragon wrestling program. He won 63 career matches and was a two-time team captain. Forde also was a four-time National Collegiate Wrestling Association NCAA Division II All-Academic honoree.
During his time as an assistant at SMSU, he helped the Mustangs to a combined 35-17 mark in dual matches.
At MSUM, Forde will assist in all aspects of the Dragon wrestling program. He will also work for the recreation and intramural program on campus.
Forde is a 2011 graduate of MSUM with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He earned his master’s degree in education: sports leadership and management from Southwest Minnesota State in 2013.
