Dragons Head South to Face No. 17 Augustana

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Fresh off of a 2-1 week at home, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team hits the road for a conference match at No. 17-ranked Augustana, which is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.

MSUM is 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while Augustana is 12-4 overall and 1-0 in the league.

MSU-Moorhead DragonsThe Dragons went 2-1 last weekend, beating St. John’s (34-6) and Jamestown (37-5) in nonconference duals while falling just short in an upset bid against No. 6 Upper Iowa, 21-18. Senior Michael Joseph (174) and sophomores Blake Bosch (133), Isaac Novacek (149) and Garret Hoffner (157) all went 3-0 on the week for MSUM. Bosch had two pins on the week.

For the season, Bosch, who was ranked No. 6 at 133 pounds last week, leads the Dragons with a 14-5 record. Hoffner is 8-2 at 157, while Novacek is 9-5 at 149. Joseph is 10-6 for MSUM, while sophomore Nader Abdullatif is 11-8 at 285. Sophomore Shane Novak is 6-3 at 125, while senior Shawn Porter is 10-7. Senior Philippe Walker is 8-7 at 141 for MSUM.

Kris Nelson is in his sixth season as MSUM’s head coach.

About Augustana: The Vikings are 12-4 on the season after going 4-0 at the Ranger Duals in Kenosha, Wis., last weekend. They are led by junior T.J. North, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation at 125 pounds with a 14-3 record. Senior Jeremiah Peterson is 8-2 at 141 pounds and is ranked fourth nationally, while senior Jayd Docken is ranked No. 5 at 197 pounds with a 16-4 mark. Sophomore Jacob Anderson is 21-9 at 149 while junior Shawn Hatlestad is 22-7 at 157. Jason Reitmeier is in his 12th season as Augustana’s head coach.
