MSU wrestlers earn 24-12 win despite sluggish effort

On the scoreboard it looked like a decisive 24-12 Minnesota State wrestling victory over the University of Mary.

To the eye of coach Jim Makovsky, however, it was anything but decisive. He described his team’s performance as not a little but “a lot sluggish” at MSU’s Bresnan Arena Thursday. Outside of 184-pounder Corey Abernathy and 165-pounder Cody Quinn, he felt all of his wrestlers could have done better.

“We’ve been an aggressive team up to this point but not tonight,” he said. “We need to do a lot better. We have St. Cloud coming up on Saturday and we have to wrestle a lot better than this if we’re going to have a chance at winning.” Continue reading at
